Jacqlyn Culwell 3/19/2016 As a new listener to musician Ricki Erik, the first thing I can say is that his music is good. The best and most unique aspect of his ten track album Genre-Ality is that every single song has a completely different feel. By mixing up the mood of each song, there is no way to be bored with Ricki’s music. His latest album is jam packed with guitar riffs, interesting drum beats, piano, bass guitar, and vocal accompaniments that pull everything together into one enjoyable package.
With each new song comes a new story and new feeling and the lyrics are relatable. Though simple at times and straight to the point, the lyrics create a strong story. |

Love Hurts

Love Hurts, originally written as a ballad song quickly turned into an upbeat dance tune from the very first day in the studio. Something different came over me!
I wrote this song about a girl I loved a long time ago; our relationship ended with a painful breakup. The song is an expression of emotion, it's about having to make the decision to either play it safe or let your heart be open to love and all its rewards again.
Love Hurts is about seizing the opportunity to rekindle a love affair with that person you thought was worth it all—the love and the pain, the good and the bad. It's about recognizing that second chance and taking it.
